Who’s more punk than Beethoven? This program matches a newly commissioned work from brilliant Canadian composer Vincent Ho with Beethoven’s monumental Op. 130 quartet and Grosse Fuge. Ho’s work explores a variety of punk traditions, drawing from film, music, and comic book traditions of the last fifty years.

Joseph Haydn - String Quartet in C major, Op. 33 No. 3
A mix-tape style program inspired by the natural world, this concert features works from some of today’s most innovative composers, exploring internal and external emotional and musical landscapes. Movements from Haydn’s timeless masterpiece are woven between works that transport the listener along the California coast, through the wintery woods of Massachusetts, and into the Mojave Desert.

The Thalea String Quartet teams up with virtuoso cellist Sterling Elliott in a one-of-a-kind collaborative performance that presents Schubert’s timeless Cello Quintet as you’ve never heard it before!
This program re-examines Schubert’s classic by pairing the work with string quintet repertoire that spans 350 years. Each movement of Schubert’s quintet is paired with a unique string quintet work that travels across time, tradition, and musical language. These interpolations, including music by Tanya Tagaq, Henry Purcell, and Paul Wiancko, re-contextualize Franz Schubert’s timeless classic, shining new light on the work’s timbres, textures, and emotional depth.
